On the lower slopes, hikers are likely to encounter elephants, giraffes, and buffalo. As they ascend, the trail follows the north rim of the volcano’s crater along a dramatic ridgeline. Throughout the trek, hikers stay in designated huts along the trail. Reaching the summit at sunrise offers breathtaking views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the Mt. Meru Crater.
