Tanzania Family Safaris

Family Safari Holidays in Tanzania

Tanzania is fantastic for family safari holidays! As the country is situated within Africa’s malaria belt, we don’t recommend traveling here with children under 6 years. However, it’s a great destination for wildlife-loving youngsters aged 6 years and over.

For sheer concentration of animals, Tanzania is hard to beat! Game drives are action-packed, particularly in the areas making up the country’s famous Northern Circuit. These areas are among the most affordable destinations in Africa for family safari holidays. The larger your group, the more economical the trip becomes, as the cost of using a vehicle is split among the family. Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous) in Tanzania’s southern region is worth considering too, and there’s the exciting option of combining your safari with a beach break on Zanzibar!

Throughout the country’s north and south, many properties are well set up for families. For example, they have family rooms or interconnecting rooms. Additionally, some have swimming pools and larger communal areas. A few companies also offer private activities for families, allowing for a flexible approach to your family safari holiday.

Family Safari Where To Go !

Serengeti National Park

From witnessing the Great Migration to catching sight of the big cats that follow the herds, you and your children will be mesmerized by this national park every time you set off on a traditional game drive! The Serengeti is renowned for its vast plains and abundant wildlife, offering an unforgettable experience as you watch thousands of wildebeest and zebras cross the landscape. The excitement of seeing lions, leopards, and cheetahs in their natural habitat adds to the magic, making it a perfect destination for families who love nature and adventure.

Ngorongoro Crater

The views from the Crater rim are sure to have you and your little ones gasping with awe. Well worth a visit for the scenic vistas alone, the Crater is also steeped in history, providing an educational experience for children. As you descend into the caldera, you’ll encounter a diverse range of animals, from elephants and rhinos to flamingos and hippos. The rich biodiversity and the opportunity to learn about the area’s geological and anthropological significance make it a fascinating stop on your safari.

Nyerere National Park

(formerly Selous) – Nyerere is a watery world filled with palm trees, boat cruises, and, of course, some wonderful wildlife. This reserve is perfect for a quieter family safari, offering a more relaxed and intimate experience compared to the busier parks. You can explore the park’s rivers and lakes by boat, giving your family a unique perspective on the wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. The tranquil environment and lush scenery make it an ideal spot for families looking to enjoy nature at a slower pace.

Zanzibar Island

You can’t beat family time spent on the beach, and that’s why we recommend a few days post-safari along the white sandy beaches of Zanzibar! After the excitement of your safari, Zanzibar offers the perfect setting for relaxation and fun. The island is famous for its pristine beaches, clear turquoise waters, and vibrant marine life. Whether you’re building sandcastles, snorkeling among colorful coral reefs, or simply enjoying the warm sun, Zanzibar provides a wonderful backdrop for creating lasting family memories.

What You Will Experience on a Tanzania Family Safari

A Tanzania family safari is more than just a vacation; it’s a journey of discovery, connection, and shared wonder. Each day unfolds with new adventures as you traverse the untamed landscapes of Tanzania, accompanied by knowledgeable guides who impart fascinating insights into animal behavior and local cultures. Experience the thrill of spotting the Big Five—lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros—while on game drives, and create lasting memories as you witness nature’s most extraordinary spectacles, from golden sunsets to star-filled skies. Interact with Maasai tribespeople and learn about their ancient customs and traditions, gaining a deeper understanding of Tanzania’s rich cultural heritage. Engage in immersive activities such as bush walks and birdwatching excursions, fostering a sense of appreciation for the natural world in young hearts.

We then headed to the boat and cruised to the island and the rest was mystery. It was a very smooth experience with Afriswahili Adventure, using them was a perfect choice

Afriswahili hakuna matata Everybody dreams of having an adventure. An adventure to remember their entire life. Today I am here to share with you one such adventure of mine. A Beautiful Giant 5895amsl free standing mountain over 6 days lemosho route. “It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.” Godliving Bayona, the best kilimanjaro mountain guide famously said. This is what mountain teaches us. We might seem like a puny ant in front of it but we can still dream to reach the top, however, far it might seem. It is this self-belief of reaching the top despite the insurmountable odds that makes mountains so special for me. An adventure is never complete without a partner in crime. I didn’t had 1 but 3. Three complete strangers from different parts of India whom I can now count as my dear friends. We not only hiked together but we shared our pains and happiness alike. This was one of the highest moments of this trip that I made 4 great friends for life. Happy hike Afriswahili hakuna matata😊
